LIVE Project Unfolded New Opportunities for Cambodian Scholars

Participating in different professional activities cannot only provide you with exciting and challenging tasks, but it can also unfold new opportunities like Chandaly Mao has experienced. Chandaly secure an internship with an Australian start up following her participation in the LIVE project in late 2020. Chandaly and her team were working to help a client who was developing a learning app called BioBrain. The app is targeting secondary school and 1st year university students to help them learn and review  Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Chandaly and her team put together a social media strategy to attract new users. Pleased with the quality of her work, BioBrain invited Chandaly to undertake an internship, which she started earlier this year.

LIVE projects also provide opportunities for participants to get exposed to new Australian experiences that they might not even be aware of. Keoveasna had never heard about body measurement technology until he and his team met his client virtually. During the time working on his client’s business project, Keoveasna discovered new insights on how commercial industry operates in Australia.

The diverse projects and clients in the LIVE projects can be both challenging and stimulating. Rithea who is completing his Master’s degree in Cyber Security, described his experience:

Rithea and his team completed the challenge to assist Mentone Life Saving Club to sharpen their service strategy to meet the changing demand of the community it serves. Mentone Life Saving Club is one of the oldest life-saving clubs in Victoria that has been around since 1920. Rithea and his team developed a market re-entry strategy for the Club following their renovation to improve facilities and services for the community.

Another scholar, Sophimean noted some differences working with Australian clients compared to Cambodians. She found that Australians are more casual in their communication than she expected. Sophimean appreciates the laidback but punctual working style. She also values the constructive feedback that she received during the program. Sophimean and her team assisted Campus Consultancy to develop a new market entry strategy and grow their service to provide leadership training and workshops to high school student leaders.

Due to the COVID19 restrictions, the LIVE project was once again delivered online. It posed some challenges especially when needing to work together with a multicultural team that had never met before. This is one of the challenges that participants needed to work through to successfully deliver a good presentation and solve real business issues. It is a worthwhile and satisfying experience when the client sends you positive feedback on your team presentation.

The LIVE projects program offers opportunities for Australia Awards Cambodia scholars to undertake real world business projects for Business, Government and Community organisations in Australia.
