Managing Director, The Advanced Centre for Empowerment (ACE)
Course: Master of Education
University: University of Adelaide
Graduation: 2014
Australia alumnus Ain Chean Toing (JC) graduated with a Master of Education from the University of Adelaide in 2014, and is currently Managing Director of the Advanced Centre for Empowerment (ACE), an independent non-governmental organisation based in Phnom Penh.
ACE supports underprivileged and disadvantaged children and young adults from some of the most disadvantaged communities in Cambodia, to improve their opportunities and livelihoods through the provision of education, health and hygiene training, personal development, leadership training and securing work experience placements.
Due to COVID-19, many ACE activities, such as English language classes and leadership training have been suspended. This has affected nearly 800 children and youth.
Seeing the obvious needs in the community, JC has refocused the resources of ACE to offer training to parents and children about how best to protect themselves by washing their hands frequently and properly, wearing masks when necessary, and practicing social distancing for his project communities.
In addition, with the support of partners and donors, ACE has compiled and delivered care packages to nearly 200 families, consisting of rice, oil, sugar, salt and a range of other food items as well as 1,500 masks, and set soaps, hand sanitizers. These supporting activities have been made possible with the generous partners and friends and his ACE supportive team.
Australia Awards Cambodia is managed by Tetra Tech International Development, on behalf of the Australian Government.
