Returning for Cambodia’s Development – Ratana Chheang

Join us in congratulating Ratana Chheang, on the successful completion of his Australia Awards Scholarship. Australia Awards Scholarships provide development opportunities to talented Cambodians who wish to lead change in their country and build careers that contribute to Cambodia’s ongoing socio-economic development. Ratana returns with a Master in Education from the University of Sydney.

Here is what stood out to him as his educational journey in Australia ends:

“I am excited, but at the same time starting to feel nostalgic as I prepare to return home. Reuniting with family and friends brings immense joy, and I can’t wait to share the knowledge and experiences gained in Australia to contribute to my community.

Despite feeling nervous at the beginning, I achieved high academic scores and worked as an ESL teacher, shaping my skills in education. I have helped a school in Sydney with syllabus design, educational programs, teacher professional development, and as a teacher preparation advisor and mentor. Social events allowed me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.

I’ll miss my university, classmates, and the independent lifestyle in Australia. However, I look forward to meaningful conversations, savouring local cuisine, and making a positive impact in Cambodia’s education sector.”
