Returning for Cambodia’s Development – Som Chanchhorvy

I’m happy at the prospect of completing my Australia Awards Scholarship and achieving what once felt like an impossible dream—earning a master’s degree in Australia! My two-year journey immersed me in sustainable urban planning, especially for Global South cities. Now, with this wealth of knowledge, I’m eager to make an impact on land use planning in Siem Reap.

My time in Australia has been life-changing in so many ways. I’ve grown academically and personally, enjoyed traveling to beautiful destinations, and met new friends from various countries. Plus, my family and I experienced life in a developed country, creating lifelong memories.

What will I miss the most? The seamless blend of bustling city life and serene nature. The sight of wild birds flying freely, and the sound of a crow cawing will always remind me of my time in Australia.

Now, I can’t wait to return to Cambodia! I’m looking forward to reuniting with my family, enjoying my mother’s delicious food, and going back to work!
