I can hardly believe it, but my time as an Australia Awards Scholar truly flies, and what an incredible journey it’s been! The two years that have passed since I got the congrats email seem to have gone by so quickly. As an AAS Mekong Australia Partnership scholar, I’ve had the privilege of receiving customised leadership training, enriching activities, personalised mentoring, and fantastic networking events. I’ve had opportunities, made friends, and learned things that have changed my life. I can’t wait to use these new abilities to help the financial industry in Cambodia when I return.

The best thing I did when I was in Australia? Without a doubt, the enrichment programs and leadership training that took me to Canberra, Brisbane, and Sydney. I made great friends, and academic colleagues, and met motivating facilitators. My journey was made even more memorable by the friendships, the variety of cultures, and the famous sites.

Contrary to popular opinion, I find Melbourne’s weather quite pleasing: I truly enjoy the sunny walks to class, the cool breezes, great coffee, and the beautiful scenery. The vibrant community and the independence of being an international student have made Australia feel like a second home.

But now, I’m eager to go back to Cambodia, though! I can’t wait to take up new career opportunities and of course to see my loved ones again and enjoy my mother’s cooking. The first place to stop? I have surely missed Angkor Wat in Siem Reap!
