My one-year experience in Australia stands as one of the most transformative chapters of my life. My Australia Awards Scholarship has allowed me to broaden my network, cultivate meaningful friendships, develop academic and creative skills, rekindle my love for photography and audio, and unlock a new passion along the way.
One unforgettable moment was experiencing vivid Sydney on my first day in Australia. The city came alive with vibrant light installations, interactive art, and breathtaking projection mapping. This encounter sparked a creative inspiration that encouraged me to enroll in a unit I had initially been hesitant to pursue. By the end of the semester, I produced my first audiovisual project, blending the soundscapes of Australia and Cambodia—an experience that was both challenging and deeply rewarding.
I’ll miss my beautiful campus, the breeze of clean air, and the colourful spring when everything revealed its beauty. It made me pause to appreciate nature, a daily ritual I didn’t realise I had come to cherish. I won’t forget the summer when I go swimming in different bays, walking along coastlines, watching sunsets in Barangaroo, and visiting fellow scholars in other states. Each season has filled both my camera roll and soul.
As I prepare to return home, I’m looking forward to hugging my niece, sharing meals and travels with my family, strolling along the walking street of Phnom Penh city, and reconnecting with friends. I’m excited to contribute the skills and knowledge I’ve gained and bridge the art and creativity to other development sectors.
