On this World Humanitarian Day, we honour Mr. Check Channy, an active supporter of children’s rights and the inclusion of people with disability. His efforts continue to shape a more compassionate and inclusive Cambodia.

With over 25 years of experience in social development, Mr. Channy has dedicated his life to enhancing the access of disadvantaged groups, particularly women with disability and children, to essential services. In his role as Program Manager for the Children in Families’ Enhancing Service Provision (ESP) Project, he leads initiatives to support family-based care and community-based rehabilitation.

Previously, Mr Channy served for more than 15 years in the public sector as Deputy Director of the Disability Action Council under the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation. He played a key role in the development of Cambodia’s National Disability Strategic Plan and the Inclusive Education Policy for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
Mr Channy obtained a Master of Disability Policy and Practice from Flinders University in 2017 under an Australia Awards Scholarship. His study in Australia helped shape his approach to inclusive policy and practice, especially in promoting family-led, play-based care for children with disability.

Reflecting on his mission, Mr Channy shared:
“Children with disability deserve the same love, care, education, and health services as all children, with support from their families and society from the very beginning.”

Mr Channy’s total dedication reminds us that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving family and to reach their full potential, regardless of ability.
We sincerely thank Mr Check Channy for his contributions to building a more inclusive society.
