Australia Awards Scholarships alumnus Dr Oum Chan Mono is passionate about helping smallholder farmers adapt to climate change through climate-smart farming and intercropping to protect livelihoods and improve market opportunities.
His research project looks at how intercropping adoption by smallholder farmers, and the factors that drive adoption (perceptions of climate risk, knowledge sharing, market proximity, and access to financial & digital services), increase food security.
His research found intercropping increased food security by 9.8 percentage points and reduced food insecurity by nearly 14 percentage points. With support from an Australian Alumni Research Grant, he turned this idea into evidence that can shape policy and help farmers adapt to climate change.
Dr. Oum Chan Mono is a Co-founder & Research Director, Analytics & Insights Asia. He obtained a Master of Applied Economics (Public Policy) from the University of Adelaide (2016) under an Australia Awards Scholarship.
We celebrate research that protects livelihoods and strengthens food systems. Your research can make a difference.
