Australian alumnus Phan Channarong knows the danger of flooding on rural livelihoods in Cambodia. He studies the health impacts of flooding in Battambang Province — including disruption to health services, increased food insecurity, and disproportionate harm to children and pregnant women — and examines local preparedness and adaptation measures (stronger health systems, contingency planning, mobile clinics, stockpiles, and better coordination) to reduce these risks.
His findings support targeted investments in preparedness, stronger local health systems, and community coordination to save lives.
Channarong obtained a Master of Biotechnology from RMIT University in 2020 under an Australia Awards Scholarship.
