On World Population Day 2026, we recognise Ms. Em Mealea for her important work supporting women, children, and adolescents in Cambodia.

Ms Mealea is a Health and Nutrition Technical Specialist at Plan International Cambodia and a former Nutrition Coordinator at Save the Children. With more than 20 years of experience in public health, she has worked to improve maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and health systems.

Ms Mealea is a proud Australia Awards Scholarships alumna, obtaining her Master of Public Health from Flinders University in 2024. Her time in Australia strengthened her research and analytical skills, built her confidence, and deepened her commitment to evidence-based public health practice.

She shared that her Australian education helped shape her professional journey and gave her the confidence to engage in policy work and partnerships. She also reminds us that investing in population health means investing in people, especially women, children, and young people.

Mealea’s journey provides a strong reminder of the impact that education, leadership, and inclusion can have on Cambodia’s development.

Australia Awards Cambodia is managed by Tetra Tech International Development, on behalf of the Australian Government.
