Welcoming home Cambodia’s latest changemakers – Sokun Socheata

My journey in Australia has been more than earning a Master’s degree — it has been a journey of growth, resilience, and self-discovery.

 

Through my Australia Awards Scholarship at the University of Queensland (UQ), I received not only an education but also support, opportunities, and the confidence to grow beyond the classroom. Some of my most meaningful experiences included joining the UQ Ventures Startup Adventure in Shenzhen, China, where I worked with a world-class technology startup, and serving as a facilitator for the UQ Ventures Discovery Program, where I supported high school students in developing entrepreneurship skills and mindsets.

 

As I return to Cambodia, I am excited to apply what I have learned in market expansion, commercialisation, innovation, and venture development to support Cambodia’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, startups, SMEs, and young people.

Australia strengthened my mindset. UQ helped me discover my potential. Cambodia gives purpose to everything I have learned. I am deeply grateful to my family, friends, colleagues, the Australia Awards, and the UQ community for their encouragement and support throughout this journey.
