Returning for Cambodia’s Development – Long Morokot

It feels like only yesterday I was running through Hong Kong airport to catch my connecting flight, nervous and excited, on my way to start this new chapter in Sydney.

From nervous airport goodbyes to unforgettable moments on the Great Barrier Reef, my Australia Awards Scholarships journey has been nothing short of transformative. Now graduating with a Master of Marine Science and Management, I look forward to returning to Cambodia not just with a degree, but with a heart full of purpose and hope.

My time in Australia was filled with firsts—swimming among vibrant coral reefs, witnessing the fragile beauty of marine ecosystems up close, and learning from world-class researchers. The experience sparked a deeper urgency to protect the ocean and strengthened my commitment to marine conservation.

Beyond the classroom, I found a second home—late beach evenings, great coffee, easy public transport, and friends who became family. These memories, along with the resilience, confidence, and global perspective I’ve gained, will guide my next chapter.

Back in Cambodia, I’m eager to return to my conservation work and turn knowledge into action, to help shape a more sustainable future for Cambodia’s coastline and communities.
