Returning for Cambodia’s Development – Vann Sokmean

As I prepare to graduate and return home, I reflect on the full journey — from applying for an Australia Awards Scholarship to living and studying in Australia. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn and experience a new environment, and I look forward to returning inspired and ready to give back to my community.

I’ll miss the laid back lifestyle in Brisbane. The academic journey was demanding: each semester pushed me beyond my comfort zone and tested my resilience. At the same time, I always knew support was there if I needed it.

My study at the University of Queensland has strengthened my critical thinking, academic rigor, and adaptability. Through research projects and mentorship, I deepened my research skills and built a professional network. I plan to apply these abilities to support Cambodia’s agricultural sector by strengthening human capacity and helping bridge the gap between academic knowledge and field practice.
