Welcoming home Cambodia’s latest changemakers – Yan Yuvatey

The Australia Awards Scholarships gave me the space to step back from work, reflect on my practice, sharpen my thinking, and return with a clearer purpose to contribute to Cambodia’s development.

 

What stayed with me most was learning through practice within my Master’s units. Through seminar discussions, field visits, project design, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks, and disaster risk reduction strategy development, I connected academic ideas with real humanitarian and development practice. This reminded me that meaningful solutions begin with context, accountability, and the voices of the people affected.

 

I return with practical skills in M&E, policy analysis, project design, and community-led development, which are vital in an era shaped by climate change, inequality, migration, and social vulnerability. My Master’s journey taught me to move beyond one-size-fits-all solutions and design responses grounded in evidence, participation, power dynamics, and local realities.

 

I’m ready to take on a role in M&E, program management, or research in the development or humanitarian sector. My capacity will help design better programs, improve implementation, and evaluate results so development work is more inclusive, accountable, and responsive to the real needs of Cambodian communities.
